Search for a metal bong and most of what you find is not metal. It is glass with a metallic finish on the outside, and that includes everything on this page.
Worth saying up front, because the difference matters. A metallic bong looks like brushed gold or oil-slick chrome and costs about what a plain glass piece costs. It is still glass. Drop it and it breaks.
If you actually want something that survives a fall, that is silicone, not metal. If you want a piece that turns heads on a shelf and hits like good borosilicate should, keep reading.
Metal or Metallic? The Difference Matters
True metal water pipes exist, mostly in aluminum, and they are a different thing to buy. They do not break, they do not chip, and they hold temperature differently to glass. They also cannot be shaped into percolators and plenty of people say they taste of it.
Metallic glass is the opposite trade. Borosilicate underneath, a metallic or electroplated layer over the outside. You get glass performance, glass flavor and glass filtration, wrapped in a finish that catches light.
The part people get wrong is durability. A metallic finish is decoration, not armor. It adds nothing to how well the glass survives a knock. If drop resistance is why you are shopping, look at our unbreakable water pipes guide instead, which covers the materials that genuinely do not shatter.
The Metallic Bongs We Carry
Four finishes, four different shapes. All borosilicate glass underneath.
The 15.5" Metallic Gold Beaker Bong is the biggest of them. Wide beaker base, so plenty of water and a stable footprint, in a gold finish with a leaf pattern. This is the shelf piece.
The 10" Metallic Zong Beaker Bong has the zig-zag neck, which is the practical one here. Those bends catch ice and cut down splashback on a hard pull, and the iridescent bubble base is the best looking finish of the four. More on zig-zag necks in our zong bong guide.
The 14" Metallic Double Tube Straight Bong is the one for a fast clearing hit. Straight tube, inline design, minimal drag. No ice pinch and no perc, so it is airflow first.
For concentrates, the Metallic 8" Recycler Dab Rig is a recycler in a color-shifting finish. Short air path for flavor, and the loop keeps water away from your mouth.
What Metallic Glass Is Like to Own
On flavor, there is nothing to worry about. The finish sits on the outside of the glass and never touches the smoke. Your air path is borosilicate from bowl to mouthpiece, same as any clear piece. If you want the detail on why the glass type matters more than the color, we covered it in borosilicate vs regular glass.
The finish itself needs a little thought. Electroplated and metallic layers are a coating, and coatings wear. Keep abrasives off the outside. Salt and alcohol inside the piece is fine, and that is where the resin is anyway.
One more thing nobody mentions. You cannot see through a metallic finish, so you cannot see how dirty the inside is or spot a hairline crack the way you can on clear glass. Clean on a schedule rather than when it looks bad, and check the joint by feel now and then.

Final Thoughts
Buy metallic glass because you want a piece that looks like nothing else on the shelf. That is a good enough reason on its own.
Do not buy it expecting armor. It is glass, it breaks like glass, and it wants the same care as any other glass bong. The rest of the range is in our bongs and water pipes collection.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How do I clean a metallic bong?
Inside, exactly like any glass piece. Coarse salt and high-strength isopropyl, plug the joints, shake, rinse with hot tap water. Outside is where it differs. Skip scouring pads and abrasive cleaners, because the finish is a surface layer and will scuff. A soft cloth is all it needs. Full method in our bong cleaning guide.
Are metallic bongs safe to smoke out of?
Yes. The coating is on the outside and the smoke never contacts it. The bowl, downstem and air path are borosilicate glass, the same as a clear bong. Nothing metal touches your smoke, because there is nothing metal in the piece.
Can I put ice in a metallic bong?
Depends on the shape rather than the finish. The zong has bends in the neck that hold cubes, so yes on that one. A straight tube with no ice pinch will drop them into the water. Check for a pinch or a bend in the neck before you buy if ice matters to you.
Are metallic bongs more fragile than clear glass?
No, and no tougher either. Same borosilicate, same breaking point. The one real difference is that you cannot see through the finish, so a chip or a hairline crack near the joint is harder to spot early. Give the joint a look and a feel when you clean it.
